Very clean, friendly & knowledgable staff, decent prices, warm & modern atmosphere...overall very nice! My wife tried the "build your own pasta dish", and was satisfied, even though she order the "small" portion. The bread brought to the table was fresh & delicious. The Calamari we got as an appetizer was excellent, crispy & full of flavor. It also came with a couple of different dipping sauces which were a nice addition. I had the Rustic Pizza, which is a brick oven pizza, and enjoyed that as we'll. I had to take half of it back to the hotel after getting filled with bread & calamari!!! I even had a couple of pieces for breakfast the next morning(breakfast of champions, I know) Prices are a liiiiiiiiiitle high, but not too bad considering how much food you get. Both of us took some with us. Right downtown within walking distance of all the hotels & shops. If you want a break from seafood, I definitely recommend this place!!!

Sunday night dinner for 9 of us. Service is definitely leisurely, though friendly. If they can't get simple kids' meals out sooner I think they need to beef up the "keep the kids entertained at the table" materials. Probably they should cut back on the menu so that they can do fewer things well and faster.

A small hotel restaurant. My friend chose this place, based on a recommend from her mother, and I must admit our tastes vary considerably. My friend would say she had a wonderful meal and enjoyed it fully. I feel differently. I was first unimpressed by the menu overall. An "Italian" restaurant without a single signature pasta dish? Make your own? What the...? I know people can be picky but this is unacceptable. I ordered a salad and the eggplant rollatini. There seemed to be only one server in the whole busy restaurant actually working the tables, with at least four other employees loitering near the bar and hostess areas. The server even delivered the food, while no one else lifted a finger to assist him. He was swamped, and our service suffered for it. The quality of food was "Meh" The salad had good flavors but was skimpy on portion size. The rollatini was actually pitiful. A bland, thin, tasteless red sauce over overcooked eggplant rolls filled with cheap ricotta. That's it. For dessert I had "Blueberry pie" It was a cute little individual "pie", served warm with a tiny smear of lemon curd and vanilla ice cream. The pie filling was good, but was completely overshadowed by far too much crust, which was needed for the show of an individual pie. The taste suffered for it. That pretty much sums up my opinion of this place, on the surface, it looks good, but it's all for show. If you enjoy bland, tasteless carbohydrates with no imagination, this is the place for you.

My friend and I were staying at the hotel and after a day of traveling came down to the restaurant to grab a drink and dinner. The bartender, Clarissa, was extremely rude. She made us feel like we were bothering her sitting at the bar and we opted to eat somewhere else. When I tried to get the bill, she repeated our order, worked on other drinks and just left. It was also really uncomfortable seeing her be rude to the other staff. This is unfortunate since it's a nice restaurant in a convenient location.

So very good. Great wine list! Of course had to try the eggplant with ricotta and the Tuscan white bean soup. Both were Delicious. Trying some meatballs. Tremendous! Extensive fine Italian menu. Gluten free options here too.

My wife and I ate at Bella Vita last night. The service was exceptional. The food was great. I had a spaghetti in meatball dinner my wife had eggplant Rollo teeny she said it was very good also. The breads that were offered complemented the meals. All in all it was an enjoyable evening under the stars we ate outside you have a choice of inside or outside. The meal is a little pricey but most would find it worth the price. The restaurant is part of the Harborside Hotel and spa which we are staying at. So two thumbs up, enjoy.

Beautiful oceanside restaurant with outstanding cocktails and very good Italian food. My wife and I started our meal by being seated next to the large windows that look out onto the ocean. It's beautiful, though you can still see the pool at the Regency Hotel where the restaurant is located. The sun was going down so it was perfect place to enjoy a cocktail. And enjoy we did. Although my martini had a bit more vermouth than I would have preferred, my wife's "Indian Summer" was absolutely fantastic. Fruity and potent, that drink is dangerous! Later in the evening I tried the "Quatro Assi" (vodka, Domain de Canton, lime, grape, and basil) that was herbal, fruity, and delicious. After dinner my wife tired the "5PM," a tea cocktail with Grand Marnier that was wonderful. For dinner, we ordered a fig salad and a tomato soup that were both excellent, with more points to the salad for freshness and inventiveness. Mushroom pizza and pasta pomodoro followed. The pizza crust was very thin and light, some of the best I've had stateside. The pasta was rich and hearty; we were both very satisfied. While the dining room is a bit formal, the atmosphere was not. Our waitress was friendly and helpful and we were relaxed and happy throughout dinner. The prices aren't cheap, but I think the food and drinks were worth it. Plus that sunset view!

Nice setting and ambience. good food, but pricey. Pastas were good, service was good, breads were just ok. Left credit card there and they were nice enough to hold it at front desk.

We ate here on 8.4 on our honeymoon. Our service was very good from Amanda, who has clearly been well trained--some of our neighbors seemed demanding, and she never came back to our table flustered or distracted. We called ahead for seating and had no wait. Wine selection is ample and you can easily find a high-quality selection for around $13 a glass. The pomodoro/ricotta dip is excellent. We each had the build your own pasta, which is a very nice feature since the combinations are endless. We each had the lobster in our entrees and the sections were big, perfectly cooked and super flavorful. Dessert was lovely...we had the the budino and it was all I could do to finish the pudding. Get the French press coffee....wow. A terrific choice for a good dinner out. We are camping, not staying in town, so it was a wonderful respite from roughing it. No real dress code! We went in clean "playclothes" and felt welcome.

During our stay in Maine at the Harborside Hotel, we ordered room service from La Bella Vita and also ate lunch at the restaurant. Service was great. Really enjoyed the menu. Loved the pizzettes (freshly made, cheese was oozing, quite delicious!). My sister ordered the bistecca steak salad which she loved (it was delicious). My boyfriend ordered a "create your own" pasta. Menu was great. Service was just okay (waiter was a bit absent) but overall the experience was great. Great restaurant, and very central location!

Really delicious, gourmet food....homemade pasta, everything is made from scratch it seems. This restaurant is located in the Harbor Side Hotel at the bottom of the hill. It's very modern with Mediterranean décor....it feels new and upscale and although I saw a lot of ladies and gentleman in casual clothes it's the kind of place for which you feel like dressing up. Service was great, drinks were good and strong. It doesn't really feel like a Bar Harbor restaurant but it's a good place to go if you're looking for a break from the downeast atmosphere.

It's inside the Harborside Hotel. I remember sitting at the bar and ordering take out. Nice place with good food.

Great view of the harbor, but, if you're a foodie, try this one for lunch as this one's not for dinner. Service was slow and other tables around us also had problems. Pompeii salad was great tasking. Ordered chicken saltimbocca and got the wrong type of pasta - which came without sauce (yes, it was plain!) - and it was moushad (Italian for mushy & over cooked). Also ordered chicken parm which was ok. Had to ask if they had bread when dinner was delivered - and they served pita bread (in an Italian restaurant?). After the $145 bill (without tip), recommend that you take advantage of the harbor side view by having pizza / salad / wine over lunch. That was the only other time we were there and it worked out fine.

You know what I admire about this place? We strolled in with a large portion of a wedding party and were greeted by the hostess. "How many in your party?" she asked. "19," we replied. Without blinking an eye she made some magical things happen and we were seated in about 10 or 15 minutes. I was fairly impressed to say the least. To be fair we were sat at 3 tables right next to each other in their own little section, but still. I was more impressed that the service never lagged, whether they were refilling drinks, taking orders or bringing out bread everything was spot on here even with 19 of us. This was one of the better meals I had in Bar Harbor so I would highly recommend stopping by, especially if you're like me and get tired of hearing "We have a lobster for our special tonight" 4 evenings in a row and just want some beef. If that is you order the Filet Mignon and get it with the Gorgonzola topping. It's divine, I promise. And the crispy bread they bring out to start your meal is some of the tastiest I've tried. I'd fight you for it on most days. It's pricey and I'm not sure it would be worth it in Denver, but in Bar Harbor it totally was.

Got to eat/ snack here twice while we stayed at the Harborside. The brick oven pizza's are yummy but the thing i really loved was the cappuccino which comes with a nutmeg rock candy served on the side. Something about a pretty cup, right? Would have married my waiter if he had asked me, what a hottie.

On our final night in Bar Harbor, we decided to have dinner at La Bella Vita because we wanted a restaurant that would be open past 9 p.m. The restaurant is located inside the elegant Harborside Hotel and most tables offer an ocean view. The staff was friendly, and offered an elegant dining experience in an elegant environment that catered to vacationers who are casually attired. For an appetizer, I enjoyed the crab lobster fonduta, which was very good. For dinner, I ordered the build your own past for dinner, I choose spaghetti and noodles were very large - I was not pleased with that. Also, I added mushrooms; they were the huge portabella variety that did not go well with the pasta. My friends ordered the margherita pizza which was also very good. We ate the leftovers cold the next day and it was still delicious. I definitely recommend this restaurant!!!

Terrible Italian food!! My husband and I were very disappointed with this place. We selected this place because we were staying at the Regency hotel. The two stars are for service, our waiter was somewhat attentive. While the view was great, its not worth coming here because the food was below average. We both ordered pasta, fettuccine and pepperdelle, both dishes were disappointing. The pasta noodles were stuck together (clumps) and tasted very hard as they are unevenly cooked. My braised short rib sauce on the pepperdelle was tasteless and lacked flavor. The fettuccine looked unappetizing, my poor husband couldn't eat much. How can you mess up a cream sauce? We both ate about 10% of our meals and our waiter asked if we liked our dish because it was that obvious. We didn't bother sending it back. I wouldn't go back here or recommend this place to anyone. Waste of money.

Great place! The ambiance and service were great, and the place is really cute inside, great views of the islands in Frenchman's Bay. We had to sit inside due to weather, but I think they have patio seating overlooking the water which would have been great. We started with a cold seafood sampler which was so good, and the bread basket they give you has three types of amazing bread in it: a flat pesto bread, a cheesy bread, and foccacia, served with ricotta cheese red sauce for dipping, yum! I got the build your own pasta and it was delicious! They have so many pasta and sauce choices, as well as vegetables and meats you can mix in with it. We will certainly go back next time we are in Bar Harbor! It is a bit pricey though because it is in the Harborside, but worth it.

Came here for my bday after roaming around Acadia National Park and had a fantastic meal. Our server was cute, friendly and helpful with making dinner reco's. We all ordered drinks - I had a Pina Colada and it was delicious...the others had a blueberry magarita (sounds good, but i'd steer away from) and a pear martini (standard, but very good). For dinner, I had halibut with a lemon butter sauce - delish. The others had a lobster pasta (which was very tasty, I reco the make your own pasta dishes if you're picky about what's in your food) and lastly, the special of the night was swordfish over a lobser risotto - all great meals. A bit on the pricey side, but for a good meal or an occassion, give this place a try...if possible, sit outside!

We came back here from a couple of summer's ago. It is still great. We really enjoyed the Salmon ball appetizers. The butter poached lobster is so succulent. The steak was grilled very well.

We were in Bar Harbor for my birthday. We decided on La Bella Vita for my birthday dinner. We did not have a reservation and we did not have to wait. We sat in the area by the bar. It was quite rustic looking in that area, very nice. The bartender was also our server. He was extremely friendly and recommended many great things on the menu. I had a choose your own pasta dish with asiago cream sauce. This was good. My husband had the chicken parmigiana. His dish was amazing. Luckily for me, he shared. It was a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a nicer dinner in Bar Harbor. Order the chicken parmigiana!!!

Ate at the bar 2 nights in a row on a recent visit to Bar Harbor, once for dinner and once for dessert. The service was absolutely fantastic. David was super helpful and freindly. Fodd was very good and the pizzas looked great.

This was our first night in bar harbor. We sat outside. It was chilly but the outside heaters helped. We did not have a reservation. My meal of chicken scampi was good but cold. My husbands meal was a make your own pasta which was hot and he thought good. Service wise I sort of felt ignored the entire time we were there. I think that may have been because we switched tables due to the cold. Also, we were not staying at the hotel and I'm not sure if that had something to do with it. It definitely made me not want to go back a second time.

I gave this place three stars because my wife was pressuring me, I would have given it two. She said her salad was very good. My salad was so cold that I couldn't taste any part of it. The description on the menu was also very misleading. It was described as a tomato salad with torn croutons. It sounded like a panzanella salad but it was more like an arugula salad with a couple of small cherry tomatoes and a couple of croutons. The tomato/crouton to arugula ratio was about 5/95. My halibut entree was poor. The fish was completely overcooked and covered in a gloppy, thick, nondescript sauce. The canolli dessert was mediocre but big. There were a couple of interesting wines by the glass available.

Tourist trap alert! Food below average. Ridiculously overpriced. The spaghetti bolognese they served me was the worst I've had not only in an Italian restaurant but also in my high school cafeteria. Disgraceful. Go elsewhere.

Excellent Italian food and professional service in a great setting. The good- beautiful room (roomy and warm), (indoor or outdoor poolside/harbor front on a shaded patio), professional staff, great large menu, not terribly expensive. Try to create your own pasta dish - with fresh pasta. Also of note - the bread basket, focaccia with pesto, comes with a bowl of excellent fresh, light tomato sauce and a dollop of ricotta. Yup, you will ask for a second - OINK and YUM. The bad - uh, can't come up with one other than the tap water tasting odd but that could just be the BH water.). So, 5 stars it is.

Outstanding. Great Service once seated. The NY Strip Steak was over the top. I would not normally have ordered it but our waiter highly recommended it. Flavorful, cooked to perfection. And the gnocchi served with it was heavenly. Light and pillowy not at all dense. This is the new standard of measure for gnocchi. Returned again the second night which I do not normally do either, especially with so many other good restaurants in Bar Harbor.

This restaurant was a find!!! After being told our party of 7 would have to wait over 45 minutes for a table at a place down the street (for lunch!), we came here and were sat immediately. 5 in our party got the lobster roll and of those who had had one already on previous days in Bar Harbor said they thought this lobster roll was the best. One other in our party got a salad with chicken that was fantastic. The highlight of the lunch was the blueberry pie - single serve, self contained in the crust, little pie. Excellent! We had blueberry pie at the end of almost every meal during that trip, and this place was the best!

By far our best restaurant surprise experience while in Bar Harbor. Ask for the chef special Cioppino. Also, the pasta with Asiago cheese. We had it with Mushrooms and Spinach and it was the best ever that we can back a second night! The marguerita pizza was fantastic as well. From service to food - an excellent experience.

Build your own pastas and the large menu are reminiscent of Olive Garden. There are so many restaurants in BH that use local produce and meats and change their menus daily based on what the chef can get and specializes in. This is not one of those places! It's nothing special and far from authentic but given the dearth of Italian in BH it may be one of your only options when the craving hits.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
